What actually happens between your estimate and install day

Five real steps, and an honest answer to the question everyone eventually asks: why does this take as long as it does?

Once you've decided to move forward, here's what actually happens between the estimate and the day the crew leaves — and where the real time goes.

1. Free in-home estimate

We measure the space, look at what's underneath your current material where it matters, and walk through options from what we stock. You leave the visit with a real number, not a placeholder.

2. Material selection

Because we stock material in-house rather than special-ordering everything, this step usually moves faster than people expect — you're choosing from what's actually available, not waiting weeks for samples to arrive.

3. Scheduling and prep

This is where the real calendar time usually lives, and it's mostly outside anyone's control: fabrication lead time for countertops, manufacturing lead time for certain flooring or cabinetry lines, and — for full remodels involving plumbing or electrical changes — permit and inspection scheduling with the city. Ask early what in your project might trigger any of that, so it's not a surprise midway through.

On your end: clear the work area, move small furniture and breakables, and make a plan for pets and foot traffic during install days.

4. Install day(s)

Our crew protects adjacent floors and walls, works the room in sequence, and cleans up at the end of each day rather than leaving a job site standing overnight when it can be avoided.

5. Walkthrough and sign-off

Before we call it done, we walk the finished space with you. That's the time to point out anything that doesn't look right — not two weeks later.

The real bottleneck is almost never labor days. It's material lead time and, on full remodels, permitting. A contractor who tells you that up front is giving you a more honest timeline than one who just quotes install days.
