A backlit Cristallo quartzite kitchen in Frisco, TX

A new-build kitchen in Frisco where the countertops are the light. The owners wanted a true wow piece — so the island, waterfall end and full-height backsplash are Cristallo quartzite with LED backlighting, finished with an extra-thick mitred edge all around. Stone, lights, luxury vinyl flooring and plumbing: all by our own Acue team.

The project

One idea: let the stone light the kitchen.

Most kitchens add lights around the countertops. This one puts the light inside them. Cristallo is a natural quartzite that lets light through, so with LED panels behind it the crystal veins glow gold, cream and soft lilac — and with the lights off it is still a striking natural stone countertop.

We used it on three surfaces so the whole room reads as one piece: the island, its waterfall end down to the floor, and the full-height backsplash behind the range. An extra-thick mitred edge runs all the way around, with a 12″+ overhang for seating.

How this job went

Two weeks, start to finish.

From the first visit to the lights going on, this Frisco kitchen took about 2 weeks. The luxury vinyl floors took 4 days, including baseboards, touch-up and paint.

From the day the slabs were chosen until the last piece was installed, the Cristallo was our responsibility — storage, handling, transport, fabrication and installation.

We followed the same steps we use for every countertop — from picking the slabs in our yard to the walkthrough before cutting and same-day installation.

Pick a stone that glows

Only translucent stones — quartzites like Cristallo, and onyx — let light through. We'll show you which slabs work at our Carrollton showroom.

Plan it with the cabinets

The light panels sit on the cabinet base, so it's easiest when the stone, lights and cabinets are planned together. We can do all three.

Choose where it glows

Island only, island and waterfall, or the backsplash too. Each lit surface adds impact — and to the estimate, which is free and itemised.
